Hoarding Permissions in Tirupati: How TMC Advertisement Tax Actually Works

24 Aug 2026 · by the Shristi Advertising team

Every hoarding you see standing legally in Tirupati has paid its way. Tirupati Municipal Corporation runs a formal Advertisement Tax desk — the same civic system that handles property tax and trade licences — and it covers “Hoardings and Advertisements” explicitly.

Here is how the process actually behaves, from a company that files these applications routinely.

The three things TMC cares about

  1. The tax. Assessed on the display — size, location and duration matter. Budget it as a real line item in any campaign.
  2. The structure. A hoarding is a steel structure in a cyclone-belt state. Structural soundness is not paperwork theatre; corroded frames on other vendors’ sites are why the rules exist.
  3. The zone. The Tirumala approach and temple-adjacent areas carry their own restrictions under TTD and municipal rules. What flies on Air Bypass Road does not fly at Alipiri.

The mistakes that get boards removed

  • Mounting first, applying later. The inspection cycle catches it, and removal plus penalty erases the campaign’s economics.
  • Oversizing beyond the sanctioned face. An extra two feet of flex over the approved dimension is still a violation.
  • Letting the renewal lapse. Advertisement tax is periodic. A compliant board with an expired renewal is a non-compliant board.

How we run it instead

When Shristi executes a hoarding campaign, the sequence is: site confirmation → structural check by our fabrication team → application and tax filing → print (our own 3.2 m press) → mounting by our erection batch → photo report to you. One desk, one invoice, and the paperwork is our problem.

Quick answers

Can I put up a hoarding without TMC permission?

No — unauthorised hoardings in Tirupati are subject to removal and penalty. The advertisement-tax route is not optional, and a removed board costs far more than the tax ever would.

Who pays the advertisement tax — the brand or the agency?

Commercially it is part of the campaign cost. When Shristi runs your campaign, we file and pay it as part of the package so there is one invoice and one responsible party.
